You know how it is with Insiders.

They have more information than they're giving you, because that's part of the job. They are in the business of trying to get you to click on, tune in, follow, like, and subscribe to not only the news they are giving you now, but also in the future, because that's also part of the job.

Which is why, in the wake of Leo Carlsson's blockbuster offer sheet it was no surprise to see tweets along the lines of, "And by the way, there are rumors that 500 other restricted free agents will also get offer sheets within the next 20 minutes." There was also talk that fellow Duck Pavel Mintyukov would receive one of those offer sheets, but Anaheim was uncharacteristically and suddenly willing to play ball with him this weekend. I wonder why.

In either event, that run on RFAs obviously did not happen this weekend. Or if it did, we don't know about it because the offers weren't tempting enough to entice these free agents to leave their current teams. On top of that, players had until 5 p.m. Eastern yesterday to file for arbitration, and if they did so, they became ineligible to receive an offer sheet. In all, 15 of them took themselves off the board, the most notable of which were Jason Robertson, Trevor Zegras, Cole Sillinger, Jet Greaves, Jamie Drysdale, and Braden Schneider. In addition, Pavel Mintyukov ended all talk of an offer sheet by extending with Anaheim at a $7.1-million AAV for five years.

That does leave some very enticing names on the board, though: Guys like Connor Bedard and Adam Fantilli — who went 1-2-3 with Carlsson between them in the 2023 Draft — or Simon Edvinsson and Simon Nemec are all still offer-sheet eligible. I think for basically all these guys, anything even approaching a reasonable offer will be matched. What constitutes "reasonable" over which might be a price point that you and I and maybe an NHL GM or three would disagree, but I just don't think there are too many teams are thinking to themselves, "I guess I would go $9 million for Edvinsson, or $8 million for Nemec." But with guys like Bedard and Fantilli, young centers with strong draft pedigrees and some very solid NHL seasons under their belts? That’s a different story.
