Whenever you say something like, "Why is Grant Fuhr even in the Hall of Fame? His numbers stink," there's some Gen X loser who will swear that he made the saves he needed to make at the right time.
Through five games of this Stanley Cup Final, Carter Hart is doing the opposite. Vegas scored on its first shot tonight. Hart held that lead for 2:41. He also allowed a goal under a minute into Game 1. When Vegas was up 2-0 more than halfway through Game 2, he gave up three goals in less than six minutes. He blew a four-goal third-period lead in Game 3. He conceded 66 seconds into Game 4.
There's also a reason Carolina's previously ice-cold power play is up to 6 for 16 (37.5 percent).
Maybe you're one of these Goalie Guys who would say that last part, or any of the individual gaffes and snafus, aren't purely Hart's fault. Harder to argue it's not a pattern, though. And I can't really blame him. He had a bad regular season, got hot for a while, and turned back into a pumpkin. He's not even the only goalie it happened to in this series. But if you want to say Hart is the biggest reason Carolina is now a win away from a Stanley Cup, I might quibble with that.
